NRCC Ad Pulled for Lying about Lois Murphy
Narberth, PA—In the most recent and most telling example of Jim Gerlach and the Republican Party’s desperate campaign of lies against Lois Murphy, Comcast has decided to discontinue airing a television ad paid for by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC). The ad was pulled down as a result of the Murphy campaign’s challenge to the veracity of the claims made in the ad. Gerlach’s campaign has already been caught lying several times, causing newspapers to correct his campaign’s gross distortions of Lois’ positions.
“This is just one more example of the misleading claims, distortions and outright lies that Jim Gerlach and the Republican Party have used to attack Lois Murphy. It’s a desperate attempt to distract voters from the fact that Jim Gerlach votes with President Bush 80 percent of the time and is out of touch with sixth district voters,” said Murphy spokeswoman Amy Bonitatibus. “The NRCC will say or do anything to hold onto this seat, including intentionally lying to sixth district voters.”
In this most recent example, the television ad charged that Lois Murphy opposes providing adequate body armor for troops and cited a vote in Congress as the source. Since Lois has yet to serve in Congress, it is impossible that she could have cast a vote on the bill. Not to mention, Lois has been a staunch advocate of providing our troops with adequate body armor.
Gerlach and the Republican Party have been caught lying before. The Chester County Daily Local had to print a correction stating that a Gerlach spokesman “mischaracterized” Murphy’s campaign contributions. In another example, an ad making false claims about Lois Murphy’s position on taxes was so far off base that the Philadelphia Inquirer ran a critique of it and corrected many of its fabrications about Lois’ positions. The article states, “The NRCC misrepresents what Murphy has said about the Bush Administration’s 2001 and 2003 tax cuts. She supports them as they apply to most Americans…” (Philadelphia Inquirer, 9/28/06).
